Chicago Global Runway
The first-ever Chicago Global Runway was held June 24 at the Chicago Cultural Centre. The exclusive South Asian fashion experience allowed guests to sit back and take in the designs from local artists. U.K. designer Mani Kohli brought her “Khoobsurat Collection,” Mumbai designer Payal Singhal showed her fusion line and there was a special jewelry presentation from Reveti Jewellers. Local stylist Sahar Dada carefully put together the outfit for the hosts, Sheetal Bhagat (Master Chef finalist and Chicago local) and Sachin Bhatia (co-host of the music show Curry Smugglers.) Sahar Dada and Geetanjali Singh also sent pieces down the runway. Akira, Chicago’s very own premiere clothing and accessory company, helped accessorize the models with footwear for the event. The runway show was more than a celebration of South Asian fashion and design – it brought a light to South Asian culture and causes. The night raised money for the Save A Mother not-for-profit organization, working with volunteers to educate pregnant mothers-to-be about health. The 300-plus attendees helped raise more than $2,500 for the cause.
